Named after my late grandfather whom I never met, Lester “H” Osborne, Horsefeathers is pretty much my do-it-all XC/trail bike. I put this together to commute on when I lived in Christchurch and to snipe the odd Strava KOM. However, it turned out to be a hell of a lot of fun through the gnar and on the down-hills. It’s an odd build that turns some heads; it’s not often you see so much carbon hanging off a steel frame or an 11-speed cassette in horizontal drop-outs. It handles fantastically and despite the steel frame being heavier and having more flex than carbon it pedals really well up-hill. It could probably be a sub-10kg race machine with a carbon frame and some more “XC” wheels, but I’m not a true racer at heart. This bike is low-maintenance and basically indestructible. It’ll last forever and that’s exactly what I want.
