A lifelong appetite for science and making things, coupled with a later interest in architecture, naturally led me to a degree in building science. However, a passion for the outdoors brought on by an upbringing in rural Canada, and later the outdoor playgrounds of Rotorua and greater Wellington, quickly won-out after starting employment in big industry. This led me to research volunteering, and later working, for the Department of Conservation. I understand and value the importance of conservation and maintaining and protecting New Zealand’s unique biodiversity. I have a very strong desire to work in the field and experience as much of this country as I can. I am very keen to gain as many qualifications as appropriate to become a well-rounded member of the Department of Conservation, hopefully while continuing to work in the field. I’m as happy in thousands of square kilometres of bush as I am in thousands of lines of code.
